Leading Well As Women
By Associate Professor Grace May
In God's landscape men and women were called to rule together. By leading well, we reflect God’s image (Gen 1:26-28).
Yet in many places, women, have either not been equipped and empowered, or have lacked opportunities to lead.
To address this challenge, we have started a Global Women’s Empowerment Area of Focus in our Masters of Development Studies program at WCIU. We want to see more of these kinds of real life leaders:
A college graduate who started a non-profit in the US to mentor high school students in South Africa
A cadre of four twenty-somethings – three sisters and a brother-- who planted a house church in Asia.
A Kenyan woman who tested HIV positive and now trains pastors and other community leaders in HIV prevention and counseling,
These women and men have led well. But few of them would wear the label of “leader.” Yet that is exactly who they are – leaders whom God has called and who have led others through their example and gifting.
My heart sings to see sisters soar.
In order to see more sisters leading, women and men need to believe what the Bible teaches, see that women have led throughout history, and know women leaders who are thriving spiritually.
Women believing in their God given image and capacity… this is the pulse of the GWE courses.
