Deborah the Judge and Prophetess

By Theresa Babbitt

The significance of Deborah in a time when Israel needed leadership cannot be understated. So, what better way to kick off our celebration of Women’s History Month than look at Deborah, the Judge and Prophetess found in the book of Judges. This heroine not only adjudicated cases that came before her but as Dr. Grace May unpacks in the video below, she had “sweeping legislative, judicial, and executive powers.” She is one marked by strength, grace and holiness whose voice was not only desperately needed but heeded in her day.

One more note before we jump into the video: Deborah exercised her leadership in a way that made room for others and raised them up. As an encouragement to you, how are you intentionally making room for others and raising them up today? Pause and pray for anyone in your life who may have come to mind.
