WCIU Welcomes the MATUL Program!
William Carey International University (WCIU) is pleased to announce that the Master of Arts in Transformational Urban Leadership (MATUL) has gained accreditation by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC)! Many have been working behind the scenes alongside the program’s catalyst, Dr. Viv Grigg, for months to ensure that the process of accreditation was completed. Our University Lead Team offers congratulations and gratitude to Dr. Viv Grigg for bringing (MATUL) into the WCIU family.
MATUL is a global network of immersive programs developed by over the last 15 years by urban poor leaders and academics, and is likely the only academic program in the world focused on transformative movements among the 1.4 billion living in informal settlements (slums) around the globe.
The official addition of the MATUL program allows WCIU to offer a more specialized development studies MA degree which focuses on cultivating social and religious movements that transform the lives of the urban poor. At WCIU we see this specialization as not only helpful, but vital, for the developing world and among the marginalized in US cities. We believe this need will only increase as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to change the economic landscape for millions.
MATUL alumni and students are making a huge impact and we are excited to not only join their ranks, but add to their numbers with the addition of MATUL to the WCIU family! Thank you Dr. Viv Grigg for bringing your life’s work to WCIU! For more information about MATUL visit the MATUL page on our website. wciu.edu/matul
